Casey Asbell - K4 and Elementary Music

Casey Asbell is new to the GCA staff this year. She is teaching one of our K4 classes and also teaching elementary music.

Casey lives in Cairo with her husband, Patrick and their two dogs, Millie and Copper. She attends Gordon Heights Baptist Church. In her spare time, she enjoys singing, learning new instruments, leading worship in Church, cooking, knitting and crocheting. She says she has enjoyed her time at GCA and that everyone has been loving and welcoming.

Richard Cox - High School Socal Studies

Richard Cox is in his sixth year at GCA. He is the High School Social Studies teacher and Cross Country Coach. He has a total of 17 years in education. Mr. Cox also served 20 years in the Navy. He is married to our own, Mrs. Dorinda Cox. Richard is the proud stepfather to Kelsey, Hannah, & Nathaniel Lambert. His educational resume includes BS (in History) from the US Naval Academy; MA ( in History) from George Mason University; 3 1/2 years as a Flight Instructor in the US Navy; and 8 years teaching at Landstown High School in Virginia Beach, VA.

Cox has numerous accolades ranging from Top History major in his USNA Class; graduating from TOP GUN; member of Phi Alpha Theta (Natural History Honor Society); and recipient of STAR teacher.

Richard enjoys running and skiing. He and Dorinda are active members of the First United Methodist Church in Bainbridge. He adds that he enjoys mentoring students as they grow in their faith and also coaching cross country with his wife.

CLAIR DUNLAP - MS/HS Math and Bible

Clair Dunlap is in her 3rd year of teaching Math and Bible at Grace Christian Academy. Clair has a B.S. Ed from the University of Georgia, a M.R.E. from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and additional master’s level math courses from Armstrong Atlantic University.

She has been in education for 34 years. Mrs. Dunlap attends First Baptist Church of Bainbridge. She is married to Gene Dunlap and they have three children (Mark, Nikki, and Daniel) and five grandchildren.

When asked why she loves teaching at GCA, she instantly said, “the kids”. 


Sara Jones - 2nd Grade

In her 11th year at Grace, Sara stays busy teaching a large class of 2nd graders. She received her Bachelor of Science in Early Education from Valdosta State University and has been teaching for a total of 15 years. Mrs. Jones attends Climax Baptist Church with her husband of 18 years, Phillip. They have three children that attend GCA: Daniel, Alida, and Lindsey. When she has time, her hobbies include crocheting, reading, and hiking.

Mrs. Jones said she enjoys teaching at GCA because she is with her children and she enjoys watching the school continue to grow, thrive and succeed more each year.

Karen Ragan - 4th & 5th Language Arts & Reading

Karen is a veteran in education. She joined the GCA Staff 3 years ago after retiring from the public school system with 31 years. This year she is teaching our 4th and 5th grade students language arts, reading, spelling, and penmanship. She is a graduate of the University of Georgia with a BS in Early Childhood Education. She and her husband, Rick attend the First Baptist Church of Bainbridge and they have two children - Rich and his wife Alyssa and Katie and her husband Kyle. They have one grandson, Pierce Shaver. Mrs. Ragan enjoys reading, painting, and spoiling her grandson. As a teacher at GCA, she loves that it feels like one big family!

Jan Thomas - LIBRARIAN

Jan Thomas joined GCA's faculty as the Librarian four years ago after 30 years in the public school system. Jan started her career at Tolbert Elementary in Calhoun, GA as their 5th grade teacher. After moving to Bainbridge, Thomas served as media specialist at John Johnson Elementary for 16 years and Elcan King Elementary for 9 years. She is married to Troy Thomas and he currently teaches ESDL at West Bainbridge Elementary. They have two children, Ellie and Cole. Ellie is attending Georgia State University where she is working on her masters in dietetics. Cole is a Senior at the University of Georgia-Tifton campus studying Agriscience.

Jan and her husband are members of the First Baptist Church of Bainbridge. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with family especially in the North Georgia Mountains. She also enjoys running. One of her proudest moments occurred when she completed her first half marathon after completing breast cancer treatment.

When asked about her career at GCA, she counts Tuesday morning faculty devotion as part of her uplifting week. She also enjoys working in a Christian atmosphere where struggles and good times can be shared from a Christian perspective.
